At CBE, we devote serious and sustained effort to ensuring that everyone who enters our doors can fully participate in all of our services, meetings, educational programs, and events.
Accessibility and Available Accommodations:
- The accessible entrance to the Sanctuary is on Garfield Place, with a lift to the Sanctuary level and an elevator down to the Rotunda level. Accessible seating is available in the front of the Sanctuary. Ushers can assist as needed. Two accessible, ADA-compliant restrooms are on the Rotunda level.
- The first floor of the Temple House (across Garfield Place), where the Chapel, Social Hall, and Boardroom are located, is accessible. The Ballroom on the second floor can be reached by a chair lift. Restrooms in this building are not accessible, but participants in all activities may use the accessible restrooms in the Sanctuary building across the street.
- We provide ASL interpreters on request, depending on availability. Please give us at least two weeks advance notice.
- Large-print prayer books are available on request.
- We livestream all Shabbat and holiday services and post them on YouTube, which has a captioning feature, and to our CBE Live page. Some meetings and events are held virtually and/or are recorded, with captioning available on most meeting platforms.
- Most sermons are recorded and posted on our Sermons page in video, audio-only (CBE Spotify), and text formats.
- We offer reserved seating for those who use wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, or other mobility aids, and for those who have communication needs. Please get in touch before you visit so we can be sure to welcome you (note that we need at least two weeks to secure ASL interpreters).
We especially aim to be a warm and welcoming Jewish home for children and teens with diverse needs. Accessibility and inclusion for youth and families at CBE looks like:
- A supervised Shalom Space at the back of the Sanctuary during Shabbat morning services from September through May, for school-age children who need to step away from the main service
- Sensory-sensitive holiday services and celebrations
- An inclusive Early Childhood Center with an administration eager to discuss how to best meet your child’s needs
- An inclusive Yachad educational program with a full-time learning specialist on staff
- Flexibility in B’nei Mitzvah requirements to meet each student where they are
- Meetups throughout the year specially geared toward families with children with diverse needs
Please contact Maribeth Batcha, Director of Membership and Engagement, at mbatcha@cbebk.org or (718) 768-3814 x214 for more information about accessibility and inclusion at CBE.
