Bail is Broken: Ending Cash Bail in New York State

February 27, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

There are currently thousands of people in jail pre-trial in New York City because they can’t afford bail, most of them people of color. Governor Cuomo has proposed ending the inequity of cash bail in New York State. With a Democratic legislature, this has a great chance to be accomplished in this legislative cycle.

Please join us to discuss the details of bail reform in New York, hear people’s personal experiences with bail, and learn what you can do in the next few weeks to pass progressive bail legislation.

Speakers will include Marvin Mayfield, who was incarcerated at Rikers and now works at The David Rothenberg Center for Public Policy. More speakers to be announced.

Admission is free with RSVP.

Co-sponsored by CBE’s Dismantling Racism Team and Racial Justice BK.
