Friday Nights at CBE – Witness: Tornillo. The Migrant Family Separation Crisis

February 1, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Our featured speaker will be local Brooklyn resident Josh Rubin, recently returned from 3 months of bearing witness outside the nation’s largest child detention center, Tornillo, near the El Paso, Texas border. This jail-like, secretive desert facility housed 2,800 teens age 13-17. It recently closed, due in part to public outcry—but other such child detention centers, equally lacking in transparency, remain open.

Josh will discuss his journey, America’s ongoing crises of family separation and the detention of migrant and asylum-seeking children—and what average citizens like us can do about it.
