Join award-winning poet Jessica Greenbaum for a closer look at some singular characters in Judaic ethnography whose resonant stories reverberate for us in the present. Among others we will consider the daughters of Zelophehad, unique in Torah for fighting for their inheritance, the artisan Bezelel, and the better known Ruth, Jonah, and nameless Lot’s wife, whose complexities offer depths of renewed recognition when read in the context of our own study, scholarly comments, and contemporary poems. Participants’ poems written in response to our study will be welcome and discussed. No previous knowledge of Torah or poetry required.
