Miracles that Matter: Hanukkah, Trauma, and Us

December 7, 2018 @ 7:30 pm

Hanukkah is the memory of a miracle – but do we believe in miracles? And – more importantly – do we care about them? Together, we’ll start at the beginning of the Rabbinic discussion of miracles, along the way finding that what makes something miraculous isn’t God breaking the laws of nature, but rather being saved from a terrifying, near-certain loss. We’ll conclude by looking at examples from contemporary medicine and religious practice – and our own lives – that continue this line of thought and feeling.
