Congregation Beth Elohim (CBE) is growing, and we are seeking an entry level administrative assistant who is creative, collaborative, and hands-on.
This person will work to support our efforts in Advancement, Engagement, and Communications; they will report to the Director of Advancement. This position has room for career growth, and is a great way to learn the skills necessary for effective digital and print communications, membership management, plus fundraising and development.
This is an in-person position which requires interaction with the professional staff, clergy, and members of the congregation.The right candidate will be charged with helping us achieve our goal of being the friendliest congregation in New York.
Applicants for this role should be organized and thoughtful, understand and appreciate the nuances of working in a synagogue, and have the drive, ability, and creativity to implement change. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with and interacting with others and who finds building community rewarding.
Salary Range: $45,000 to $50,000 based upon demonstrable experience, plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
- Implement day-to-day communications work including weekly emails, social media, and website updates.
- Assist the Director of Advancement with tracking and acknowledging of individual gifts.
- Assist the Director of Advancement with data management and reporting.
- Assist the Director of Engagement with welcoming new members, offering tours, and preparing monthly welcome packets.
- Provide support for Shabbat services, evening events, and High Holy Days as part of the engagement team.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience and/or eagerness to learn more about CRM databases, project management software, and office software including excel (or google sheets)
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once, change gears at a moment’s notice, and prioritize projects
- Knowledge of and/or experience working in the Jewish community is desirable
- Willingness to adjust hours based on seasonal needs (i.e. During the High Holy Days and staffing Shabbat services on occasion)
- A sense of humor and comfort with engaging people of all ages and making them feel welcome in our community
