CBE After School to Chess World Championship
Fabiano Caruana will be the first American to compete for in the World Chess Championship since Bobby Fischer in 1972! Shortly after moving to the Park Slope area, Caruana’s parents enrolled him in CBE’s after school program where he was first introduced to the game of chess.
Bobbie Finkelstein, long-time CBE after school director, said:
I was here when Fabiano started after school in our kindergarten! He was ‘discovered’ by our chess teacher at the time, Carol Ann Caronia; she in turn brought in Bruce Pandolfini, a world renowned chess teacher. He visited our program frequently to assess Fabiano, eventually taking him on as his student. It is amazing to see how far he has gone!
