It is said in our tradition that when a couple gets divorced even the altar in the great Temple in Jerusalem sheds tears (Gittin 90b). If you are dealing with divorce the clergy at CBE are here to comfort and support you.

In addition to the emotional needs both members of a couple may have, there is one major ritual associated with divorce: the giving of a get.

According to tradition, in order for a divorce to be valid in the eyes of Jewish law, the husband must give the wife a document that spells out the divorce, called a get. This document is usually written by a scribe (sofer) and must be given and signed in front of a panel or rabbis (beit din). The CBE clergy can to help you with these logistics.
