CAMP /kamp/:
- Noun. A place where Jews roast kosher hotdogs, kvetch, and play games of Jewish geography. (See also: “The Borscht Belt”)
- Adjective. Showy and deliberately exaggerated as in “campy” drag shows. In other words, dripping with schmaltz.
This year for Pride Shabbat, our theme is camp—and we’re talking “camp” in all definitions of the word! We’ll be setting up camp in the rustic outdoors (Prospect Park!) for a razzle-dazzle Kabbalat Shabbat. Much of the music will be by LGBTQ composers with some favorite summer camp songs in the mix.
Meet us this Friday, June 24 at 6:30 PM in Prospect Park through the Garfield Place entrance, across loop road, and to the right. Come with lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic dinner, if you like—perhaps some rainbow bagels or your favorite camp-themed foods. Bring your own boa, and feel free to wear something fierce.
Some chairs will be available for those who need them.
