Celebrating Shabbat
Shabbat at CBE is like nothing else! We welcome in this magical time of rest and renewal every Friday evening with activities for all ages and stages until Shabbat ends on Saturday night. Whether you are a parent of a toddler who wants a raucous and uplifting sing-along service, a 25-year-old seeking a meaningful Shabbat with your peers, an empty nester looking for warmth and community, or someone who wants an innovative service full of surprises, CBE has a Shabbat experience tailored just for you. We hope you’ll join us for this weekly opportunity to spiritually connect, learn, and build community.
Check our calendar for the most up-to-date information about all of our services.
PLEASE NOTE: Summer Services are Coming… Can You Help?
Each week in the summer, we invite members to play key roles in our services: prepare and give a D’var Torah on Friday nights and Saturday mornings; chant Torah and Haftarah at our Saturday morning service; or act as ushers at any and all services. Some experience is required for chanting Torah, but we’re happy to help any interested members practice and prepare for these roles. Please let us know how and when you would like to participate by filling out this form.
Friday Night Services
Kabbalat Shabbat Service (Fridays in the CBE Chapel, 6:30 PM)
Each week, welcome Shabbat with our musical and engaging service. Led by alternating members of the CBE clergy, these services are a weekly highlight for many in our community. All are welcome, members and non-members alike. Join us at 6:00 PM before services for our Jewish Happy Hour or stay late for a festive kiddush and more schmoozing.
About once a month, we welcome the CBE Jazz Quintet, whose swinging sounds enhance the spirit and vitality of our communal prayer. We also occasionally have Shabbat dinners after services. Sign up for our emails for information about upcoming Shabbat dinners and other events.
Tot Shabbat (Fridays in the CBE Sanctuary, 5:00 PM, monthly during the school year)

Saturday Services
Shabbat Morning Services (Saturdays in the CBE Sanctuary, 9:30 AM)
This vibrant weekly Shabbat celebration offers learning and communal prayer with tracks for children, adults, and families together. We begin Shabbat morning as one community with a family-friendly Shabbat service during which parents and children share in traditional liturgy and a Torah service where we celebrate b’nei mitzvah, baby namings, and other life-cycle events.
Shir L’Shabbat (Saturdays in the CBE Social Hall, 9:30 AM)

One of the most joyous events at CBE, Shir L’Shabbat is a service geared towards young families with infants and young children up to age 5. Led by Debbie Brukman, CBE’s extraordinary song leader, this is a weekly Shabbat party not to be missed. All parents that play instruments are most welcome to bring them and play along! For more Shir L’Shabbat fun, sign up for our Shir L’Shabbat newsletter.
Lay-Led Minyan (Saturdays, 9:30 AM)
All are welcome to our warm, lay-led service. Congregants age 17 to 80 take active roles in leading prayers, reading Torah, reading Haftarah, and delivering words of Torah. All levels of participation encouraged. Come learn, celebrate, and share our joy in our heritage. For more information, please contact Nate Jaffe, Lead Administrator.
Altshul
Altshul is an independent, egalitarian minyan that is guided by halacha and follows the traditional liturgy. It meets on the second and fourth Shabbat mornings of every month at CBE. Visit altshul.org for details.
