1st Grade: Kavod & Motivation

This week we learned about motivation and respect. We started class by playing Barvaz, Barvaz, Chatul. Then, after our Hebrew Through Movement lesson, we read a few books and talked about how they related to our themes for the week.

(Allison’s Class) The first book was Not Quite Narwhal, which talks about being motivated to find yourself and respecting how other people identify, and the second was Shlemazel and the Remarkable Spoon of Pohost, which is about how being motivated is more important than being lucky.

(Tzachi’s Class) Last shabbat we concluded our unit regarding beginnings and starting again, and reflected on all of the new words and their meaning we learned since the beginning of the year: Kitah, Shalom, Chag Sameah, Bruchim Habaim. We also started talking about the new words we learned in Hebrew Through Movement: L’shevet, L’Harim, and Shalom Kitah Alef!

K-2 Family Program

This week we wrapped up our Kavod unit with a special siyum (completion) and reflected on where families saw growth in certain areas and what challenges they encountered. We looked back on our learning about kavod for feelings, mistakes/fixing, trying again/vulnerability, nature, home and learning. It was lovely to hear parents share ways they see increasing kavod as a worthy process in their home (and the places we still struggle with) and to hear students share which area(s) are closest to their hearts. We look forward to beginning our next unit on Achrayut/Responsible this Shabbat!
