1st Grade: Tikkun Olam and the Hebrew Calendar!

This Shabbat we started to learn about the Jewish calendar by discussing the differences between the Gregorian and

Jewish calendars. We started to memorize the first four months and agreed to practice at home as preparation for next class. The Jewish calendar is also a part of our HTM for this unit!

Question to ask at home:

  • What are the first four months in the Hebrew calendar? (Tishrei, Cheshvan, Kislev, Tevet) [Tzachi’s Class]

Allison’s Class

This week, we talked about the concept of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and read a story about the Golem! Then, the students chose between two tikkun olam activities: BINGO or drawing a picture of an act of tikkun olam they want to do.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What is a way that you want to help repair the world?
  • What is something you remember from the Golem story?

K-2 Family Program

This week we wrapped up our Achrayut/Responsibility unit with parents and children planning together and then reflecting on all we have learned. We celebrated with a siyyum (completion ceremony) with a special prayer and donuts! Click here for the parent class and here for the student class. We look forward to beginning a brand new unit this Saturday on Kesher/Connection. Hope to see you there! !
