2nd Grade: Let’s Learn About Abraham and Sarah
This week in 2nd grade, we learned all about Abraham and Sarah and the start of the Jewish people.
Jewish Studies
Tuesday/Wednesday Jewish Studies with Haley
We read a book called Sarah Laughs, to tell the story of Abraham and Sarah moving to Canaan, the holy land, and welcoming the stranger and having their son, Isaac. To practice and dig deeper, we did a skit about god’s conversations with Abraham and Sarah where students got to act out the story and build props in the classroom. We also did a name activity where students learned about Abraham and Sarah changing their name in commitment to god and talked about how important all of our names are to us. We are so excited to continue reading the torah and learning about the stories of our people!
Questions to ask at home:
Who were Abraham and Sarah?
Do you know where your name comes from?
What do you like about your name?
What do you like about being Jewish?

The theme for the weekend is “Real Talk,” an in-depth exploration of how we can actively create meaningful connections with each other and use the Jewish art of storytelling as a skill we can take home with us to engage our peers and communities. Of course, we’ll enjoy the timeless Kallah staples like Shabbat dinner and tefilah, the first Havdallah of 2020, and Saturday night Big Fun!
