3 Pillars of the High Holidays

This week we continued to talk about the mitzvot associated with the high holy days. We learned that Tefilah(prayer), Teshuvah(repentance), and Tzedakah(charity) are the three big pillars of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We are told that we should do these three things in order to be forgiven for our sins and start the new year off right. The 5th graders were asked to think critically about these three big ideas and whether they agreed with them being the central ideas of the holidays. Students then got to think about what three ideas would they choose if they were creating the holidays from scratch. They came up with ideas such as respect, love, kindness, spending time with family, and so many more. This week, you’re encouraged to ask your child what ideas they would choose to be the three pillars of the high holy days.
5th Grade Hebrew Update: Our students are well on their way to be able to decode Hebrew letters and vowels! We’ve been using the Let’s Learn Hebrew Side by Side program in small groups and doing associated review games and hands on practice to reinforce the letters learned. The great thing about this program being done online is students can catch up at home if they were absent in order to join in with their group the next time they are here. Please keep an eye out for emails with login info and lesson details after absences so all our students can feel completely comfortable in their Hebrew groups.
