5th Grade Leader vs Hero

In 5th grade, we’ve been determining the important qualities good leaders should have through art, discussion and debate. First we drew large outlines of leaders- some students even used their bodies as guides. These were filled in with as many leadership qualities as we could think of. For example, some groups included qualities such having a strong voice on the mouth and being helpful to others on the hands.

Next, we debated whether a hero and a leader are the same thing. Students argued very passionately, many bringing up examples from Judaism as well as political leaders. We will continue next week by learning about some of the important figures from the Torah and looking at the leadership qualities they may or may not have shown.

This week the 5th graders also got a chance to present their mitzvah villages to the 4th graders. They did a great job explaining their projects to their peers and teaching about the mitzvot they included.
