5th Grade Mock Trial Preparations

This week, parents in each class who work as lawyers were generous enough to join us in class to teach the 5th graders about the different roles in a trial and what happens in court. The students were very engaged in these discussions and asked great questions.

In addition to learning about the US court system, we also looked at the court systems of the ancient Israelite people. We looked at the text of the torah which commands us to appoint judges and to judge in a fair an unbiased manner. Students debated some of the qualities which were required of judges and witnesses back in those times. Ask your child: Why is it a Jewish value to have a fair trial? We ended the week by learning which role each student will play in our Jacob and Esau mock trial. Students are very excited to dive into their roles and begin prepping their statements.

Reminder: For the Tuesday/Saturday class, the mock trial date is Saturday, March 7th 11am-12am and for the Monday/Wednesday class the trial date is Wednesday, March 4th 5pm-6pm.
