5th Grade Remote Learning

Hi 5th Grade,

Welcome to the first day of remote learning at Yachad! This is a time of uncertainty for all of us, but I hope you are all staying safe and healthy amid the chaos. The Yachad team is here for you and we hope this community can support each other even from a distance.

Our goal for remote learning is not to add any stress to what we imagine may already be a difficult time in many households. Rather, we hope bringing Jewish community and Jewish learning into your home can be something that adds joy to a time of potential fear and anxiety.

Please take a look at this week’s virtual lesson via Google Slides. The learning can be done throughout the week whenever is convenient for you, but here is a sample schedule I recommend:

Monday/Tuesday: Follow the instructions on the powerpoint document. Choose one blue slide to learn new information and then record a video on Flipgrid(link & instructions in the powerpoint) to discuss what you learned with your classmates. Then, choose one of the yellow slides to express what you learned. End with ten or fifteen minutes of Hebrew practice.

Wednesday/Saturday: Take a look at what your classmates had to say on Flipgrid. Respond to at least two of their posts. End with ten or fifteen minutes of Hebrew practice.

Additionally, each day at 3:30pm, I will run an opt-in kahoot game for students to play. This is an online trivia game that students have been loving playing in class. We will use it to review the content in the google slides. I will email the link and pin # for the game at 3pm and the game will start at 3:30pm. If your child has their own email address, I’d love for them to receive these updates directly! Please respond with their email address so I can add them to my contact list.

At 4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, our clergy will be leading tefilah for Yachad students and families via this zoom link: https://accantors.zoom.us/j/7198305585. All are encouraged to tune in each day for some spiritual relief, keeping in mind that Monday will be geared toward 2nd & 3rd grade, Tuesday will be geared toward 4th grade, and Wednesday will be geared toward 5th & 6th grade.

Lastly, this is all new territory for all of us so I appreciate your willingness to try something new and see how it goes! I would love to hear your feedback and recommendations as we proceed with remote learning. Here is a feedback survey for you and/or your child to fill out after trying out this week’s lesson. This survey can also be found on the last page of the powerpoint slides.

I am working from home for these two weeks and I am reachable by email and phone. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

All my best,

Emily
