7th Grade Electives On A Roll!
Hello families,
The seventh grade electives are going really well! To give a couple of details, this past week, the Jewish Cooking class had a Candy Sukkah building contest (think gingerbread house, but with a sukkah instead!), the Jewish Arts & Crafts class made mezuzahs out of clay, the Judaism & Sports class self-refereed an ultimate frisbee game after discussing the ethics of self-refereeing, the Torah Study class discussed why Jonah ran away and what was the deal with the big fish, the Holocaust Studies class arranged a timeline of key historical dates leading up to the Holocaust, and the Rosh Chodesh girls discussion group continued their conversation around identity.
We only have two more weeks of electives left this trimester (time flies when you’re having fun), and then we’ll ask the kids to chose what elective they’d like to take in the second trimester. We’re working on being able to offer a few new ones so hopefully they’ll have some good options.
Schedule FYI: On Halloween, we will be offering alternative programming since we anticipate many students might not be joining us that evening (and we don’t want them to miss content covered in their elective or Tikkun Olam rotation.) For planning purposes, it would be really helpful if you took this 30-second survey to indicate whether your child is planning on joining us at Yachad on Thursday, 10/31.
Speaking of schedules, looking forward to hopefully seeing you at Back to School Night next Tuesday 10/29 at 7pm! Hope you can make it! I’ll be reviewing in more detail the curriculum map for 7th grade and answering any questions you have. We’ll also be starting a biweekly LGBTQ discussion group for 7th graders who are interested during dinner starting this Thursday 10/24. If this is something you think your child might be interested in, you can tell them to plan to go to room Alef during dinner this Thursday. (We also offer a quiet room during dinner for students who prefer that – that’s in room zayin)
