Yachad Purim Festivities and more!
This week our Second graders continued their unit on Purim, began learning about Shabbat and reviewed what they’ve learned so far this year!
Saturday Jewish Studies
Elie’s Class
This last we reviewed everything we’ve learned so far with games where the class had to figure out what biblical character they were by asking yes or no questions. We then played a game of telephone with phrases from stories they learned to see what got lost in the game and what they retained.
David’s Class
Last week we began exploring Shabbat — students created mini-plays about Shabbat and learned about the commandments to “remember” and “observe” Shabbat. Next week we will learn the rituals and prayers of Shabbat, and explore what Shabbat means to each student personally. We will also learn about Purim!
Tuesday and Wednesday Jewish Studies
This week we had a special all-school Purim celebration! After our Hamentashen snack, we headed to the sanctuary to watch our teachers put on a special Purim play. Then we rotated between fun activities in each of the classrooms. These activities included: face painting, grogger making, mask decorating, and rice krispie treat Hamentashen making. Happy Purim!
Hebrew Through Movement
Saturday
This week we talked about colors:
Red- Adom – אָדֹם
Yellow- Tsahov – צָהֹב
Green – Yarok – יָרֹק
White- Lavan – לָבָן
Black – Shahor – שָׁחֹר
Blue- Kachol – כָּחֹל
We also learned the word Crown – Keter – כֶּתֶר, and then played a game with crowns in different colors. During the game, we learned that in Hebrew the adjective comes after the noun, for example: Green crown – Keter Yarok – כֶּתֶר יָרוֹק
Tuesday and Wednesday
Our Tuesday and Wednesday classes did not have HTM this week because of the Purim activities. HTM will resume next week!
