Kindergarten: Who’s Responsible?

This past Saturday we talked about achrayut. We learned who the responsible people at Yachad are and that some responsibilities are choices and some are needs.

We also learned that havdallah helps us separate Shabbat from the rest of the week.
Hebrew through Movement: רִיצְפָּה (floor), שׁטִיח(rug) (Raya’s Class)

Questions to ask your children:

How can we show achrayut?
What does Havdalah separate?

(Elie’s Class) This week we learned about responsibility through several activities. I asked the class if they could name people in their life other than themselves who are responsible for something. We then talked about why we have responsibilities and how we often NEED to make sure those things are being taken care of vs things we want. To practice this idea we made a town: each student made two buildings or service people that the community would need (i.e hospital, grocery store) and one thing they would want (I.e playground)

In HTM we learned yad- hand, yadiyim-hands, rosh- head, regel – leg, raglayim-legs, and keter- crown. We learned these new words by picking up different colored crowns and placing them on our hands, legs and head.

K-2 Family Program

This week we explored achrayut/responsibility for children and for parents. Both students and parents examined some of the same texts through different means! For example, in the Talmud we find a list of responsibilities a parent has toward a child. While parents debated items on the list and created their updated , personalized versions, students created their own list of responsibilities toward a parent. After discussing parents’ responsibilities toward children, the sharing of responsibilities between parents and teachers toward children and children’s responsibilities toward parents, everyone came together to share some of their learning!
