2nd Grade: Making Mistakes Beautiful
Jewish Studies
Jewish Studies with Haley, Anat and Ashley
This week at Yachad 2nd graders focused on the Jacob and Esau Story.
We learned about the characters and how we can learn from them at Jews. One of the main ideas in the story is about making mistakes. 2nd graders grappled with what it means to make mistakes and why it is ok that sometimes we make mistakes. We then learned more about mistakes through hands-on activity stations. We played a game to identify real-world mistakes and we “made mistakes” through various forms of art. We had so much fun learning this week at Yachad!
Questions to ask at home:
What does it mean to make a mistake?
Who were Jacob and Esau and why was their story important?
What mistakes have you made?
How can we fix our mistakes in a Jewish way?

Hebrew Through Movement Shabbat
These past two weeks, Yachad students have been following commands in Hebrew using past HTM vocabulary in combination with the Shabbat vocabulary relating to Shabbat rituals using Shabbat themed props. We hope that when the children hear the blessing for lighting the Shabbat candles and eating the challah, the familiarity of the Hebrew words will make the blessing more meaningful to them.

K-2 Shabbat Family Program
This week we wrapped up our Achrayut/Responsibility unit with parents and children planning together and then reflecting on all we have learned. We celebrated with a siyyum (completion ceremony) with a special prayer and donuts! Click here for the parent class and here for the student class. We look forward to beginning a brand new unit this Saturday on Kesher/Connection. Hope to see you there!
Announcements
Upcoming Closures: Yachad classes ARE happening on Saturday 1/18.
No Yachad on MLK Jr Day, Monday 1/20. But we have a special MLK family event in the rotunda (see below)!
MLK Repair The World Day of Service @ CBE CBE is hosting Repair The World’s family MLK activities in our rotunda: There will be three service projects conducted simultaneously: mural painting (children with adults welcome), poetry writing (adults welcome), and packaging hygiene products for St. John’s Bread & Life (all ages welcome). Because each project involves a lot of work, they will be completed over the course of two shifts (9:30-11:00, 11:00-12:00), which people can register for via the Repair the World brand new MLK website (please search for this event on 1/20- there is no direct link).
