6th Grade: New Unit, Upcoming Field Trip and More!
This week in class, we began our 4th unit: “Nazi Germany and the Holocaust”. In this series of lessons, students will dive deeply into a historical case study about the Holocaust, practicing historical thinking skills while finding links to the universal themes of human behavior they examined in the last 3 units.
In this case study, students explore the idea of democracy and what is essential to support and sustain it. They examine how it is possible that some groups within a society could be discriminated against, dehumanized, and eventually targeted for mass murder. They are also challenged to think about the choices available to individuals in times of injustice and the factors that influence such decision making. The dramatic and sometimes painful stories told in these resources require students to respond to history with not just their intellects but also their hearts.

Join us in the Sanctuary for Shabbat Morning services, then head across the street with us to the social hall for lunch!

3/30 and 3/31 Field Trip to The Museum of Jewish Heritage
Monday, March 30th, 3:30-6:30 (for Monday/Wednesday students)
Tuesday, March 31st, 3:30-6:30 (for Tuesday/Saturday students)
We will be taking a field trip to the Museum of Jewish Heritage. We will visit their newest exhibition titled “Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away.”
Hannah Grossman and Lauren Herman toured the museum and reviewed the modified tour for this grade with the museum’s Manager of School & Teacher Programs. Students will be touring the first floor and a section of the third floor of the exhibit. We are pleased to see an exhibit that reflects so much of what students are learning in 6th grade and believe the modified tour is age-appropriate and meaningful learning experience.
Our tour of the museum will begin at 4:00 and end at 5:30. Teachers will be traveling with students via the Subway leaving CBE at 3:30. Students will return to CBE and should arrive back around 6:30.
Please note that this event begins earlier and ends a little later than a usual Yachad class. We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s schedule so as many students as possible can participate.
Please RSVP and provide transportation information by filling out these forms by 3/17.
