Achrayut through Noah, Abraham & Sarah

We started to learn about Abraham and Sarah this week. We talked about how Abraham was commanded to leave his homeland, and how he and his nephew, Lot, had to determine how they were using their new land in a way that respected the environment.

Allison’s Class

Then, after Hebrew Through Movement, we practiced writing the letter Aleph, and worked on learning some new words, including “aron” (cabinet), “adom” (red), “abba” (father), and “sabba” (grandfather).

Tzachi’s Class

Last Shabbat we finished up our unit on respect and moved into our new unit on responsibility/achrayut. We discussed if Noah was responsible or respectful to God’s requests and played games that helped us think about how we can be respectful and responsible in our own lives. This Shabbat we will continue our unit and review more Bible stories.

K-2 Family Program

Just as students are doing in their regular class, this week in the family program we began a new unit on achrayut/responsibility. Students and parents explored what it means to love your neighbor as yourself and the importance of embracing self care and self love before being responsible for others. Students used drama, art, song and stories to explore having achrayut for oneself while parents examined biblical and Talmudic texts about self love, care for one’s health and a Jewish lens on care for one’s resources. At the end parents and students joined together to share takeaways from the day.
