Building & Trying Again
We learned about Sukkot this week, and everyone got to build their own sukkah out of magnetic tiles at the start of class!
Although the exercise was designed for working independently, the kids wanted to come together to build one big sukkah, and they had several creative design ideas. In Hebrew Through Movement, we went over the letters in the Hebrew alphabet and learned the word delet (door). Finally, we talked about the story of Noah and the ark!
Questions to Ask Your Child:
What did friends share about that they had a hard time with but they tried it again? What did you share?
Why did you build something, take it apart and build it again? What were you learning?
What did your building have to do with the holiday of sukkot?
Who tried again in the Noah and Naamah story? What did they try again? Do you think it worked?
What were some ideas people had for helping people live kind lives?
Family Program
Students and parents explored the themes of vulnerability and trying again. Students enjoyed using improv, stories and song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIjBNJgloqo) to learn about making mistakes and the practice of giving things another try. In chevrutot (learning pairs) parents studied ancient and modern texts about re-encountering challenges, being open about mistakes and vulnerability in parenting. Everyone went home with their kavod goal sheets to continue thinking about these themes as a family.
