Exploring Shabbat!

Last Saturday our First Graders learned about Shabbat!

Jewish Studies with Ashley:

Hi 1st Grade B Families! This week we began our three-week unit on Shabbat! We reviewed how Shabbat is Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown, how we rest on Shabbat, and how it is a holy time for the Jewish people. Students talked about special memories in their lives and then learned that a special time with a Jewish community is holy. They drew pictures of their own memories of a holy time from their lives; scenes of Hanukkah, Passover, and Yachad were beautifully depicted! Next week, we will learn the blessings that we use to celebrate Shabbat and discuss the significance of the Kiddish cup and Shabbat candles. Have a good week!

Jewish Studies with Tzachi

Shalom Kita – Alef (first grade) families!
This Saturday we started a new unit talking about Shabbat.
We discussed why Shabbat is a very important and holy day for us. We learned that Shabbat bring us all together as a big community and it give us the opportunity to learn and be in touch with our Kehila.

Next Saturday we will continue learning about Shabbat.

See you all next week!

Hebrew Through Movement

We learned all of these new words:
לשבת-lashevet- to sit down
לקום- lakum- to stand up
ללכת-lalechet-to walk
לרוץ- larutz- to run
לקפוץ- leekpotz-to jump

The kids moved around a lot and had fun! They got the words very quickly and responded to them, and at the end we played a game similar to musical chairs, but with Hebrew instruction instead of music! I was very impressed and had so much fun being in the class!
