First Grade: Aleph Bet Yoga & Responsibility in our Torah

After talking about everyone’s week during circle time, we had choice time. Students could choose between listening to a story about how Abraham first realized that idolatry was wrong, or doing Aleph-Bet yoga.

After Hebrew Through Movement, we learned the Hebrew word Todah, which means thank you, and all of the students were able to make Todah cards to thank someone in their lives. (Allison)

(Tzachi) This Shabbat we continued our unit by reviewing a Bible story about Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob and Esau. We also continue talking about responsibility and started a conversation regarding emotions and how and why we feel certain ways in particular situations.

In Hebrew Through Movement we continued our new activity – Alef Bet yoga. We are positioning our bodies into the shapes of Hebrew letters and talk about words in Hebrew that start with the letter.

K-2 Family Program

In our third week of our Achrayut/Responsibility unit families explored responsibility toward community. Through stories, games and charades students reflected on how communities are responsible for children and how they are responsible for communities they are a part of. Meanwhile, parents shared moments when they felt closely tied to a community and when they felt that community enhanced their Jewish lives. Parents then read through ancient and modern texts about how Judaism regards commitment to community and how essential Jewish community is for prayer, rituals, learning and ethical responsibility. At the end students and parents rejoined to share their learning!
