First Grade: Improving the World Mitzvah by Mitzvah

This week, we started class by reading Maddie the Mitzvah Clown. We talked about a few different mitzvot in the story, and why it’s important to do mitzvot. Then, we played a quick game of Barvaz, Barvaz, Chatul. After Hebrew Through Movement, the students drew something that they wanted to do to make the world a better place.

Question to ask at home:

  • How do you want to make the world a better place? (Allison’s Class)

Tzachi’s Class
This Shabbat we had a very exciting class. We started with a discussion about personal hygiene and when we should wash our hands, and where to cough or sneeze when we need to. Then, after kiddush, we had two activities. The main activity focused on Hebrew Through Movement, and we had a wheelbarrow race while reciting the first five months of the Hebrew calendar. Afterward, we continued to write and draw a birthday card to the trees, as a part of our Tu B’Shevat learning.

I recommend you keep practicing the Hebrew calendar with your kids as preparation for next Shabbat.

Question to ask at home:

  • What are the first five months of the Hebrew calendar? (Tishrei, Cheshvan, Kislev, Tevet, Shevat)
