Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi families!
There’s no 7th grade Yachad this week due to the holiday, but I do have some announcements for you. First of all, the students started their Tikkun Olam class last week and will start the second trimester of electives next Thursday. Just a quick clarification on the Tikkun Olam class: in years past, 7th grade students were required to complete 10 hours of community service outside of Yachad for their Tikkun Olam project. Based on input from families and teachers, we have changed the model this yearso that students are not required to complete community service outside of Yachad. Instead, we will build opportunities for the students to learn about their topic and to engage in activism related to their topic during their regular time here at Yachad. If you have questions about this, feel free to reach out via email. (Also, if you are actively involved in any of our Tikkun Olam themes and would like to come speak to the kids in that class, please let me know! The themes are: Dismantle White Supremacy, End Hunger, Stand Up for People who are Differently Abled, Defend Refugee and Immigrant Rights, Gun Control Now, and Combat Climate Change.
