Interviewing a Rabbi
This week in 5th grade, our students got to interview some of the Rabbis at CBE to learn what being a Jewish leader means to them and see how our Rabbis live the Jewish values we’ve been learning about. The Saturday/Tuesday class interviewed Rabbi Green and the Monday/Wednesday class interviewed Rabbi Epstein. The students asked great questions to learn things like why they chose to become Rabbis, what they learned in Rabbinical school, and difficult parts of their day-to-day job.
Upcoming 5th Grade Events:
Seder Around the World on Saturday April 13th at 10:30 AM in the Social Hall. This seder will be a unique opportunity for students and families to experience various Passover customs from all over the world, learn new music with Noah Aronson, and enjoy new treats. All 5th and 6th grade families are invited to join. Please RSVP for the seder here by April 10th.
Chagigat Chumash [Chagigat: Celebration | Chumash: Torah book] on May 4th in the ballroom. In this ceremony, we invite families to join as your children receive their very own chumashim and learn what their Bar or Bat Mitzvah portion will be in a beautiful ceremony with our clergy following Saturday morning services! All 5th grade families will be invited to join us for the entire Shabbat morning service, and then when services are over (around 11:45) we will all head to the ballroom for the ceremony with a potluck lunch to follow. Please RSVP for the event and submit a note to go inside your child’s chumash HERE by April 29th.

Saturday April 13, 5:30-7:30
Sing, learn, and say thanks to Sarah Grabiner for her 2 years of dedicated service as CBE’s cantorial intern! A brilliant, multi-talented teacher and prayer leader, Sarah has endeared herself to the Brooklyn Jews community; to Gan Shabbat families; to teen Torah chanters; and especially to our 2018 b’nei mitzvah, whose preparation she oversaw during Cantor Josh Breitzer’s sabbatical. Sarah recently accompanied many of those former b’nei mitzvah students to Israel as part of CBE’s largest-ever annual 8th grade trip. Following her ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in May, Sarah will relocate back to her native United Kingdom to serve Radlett Reform Synagogue. Join the clergy team, together with artist-in-residence Noah Aronson and musical members of all ages, as we send Sarah off with singing, stories and profound gratitude!
4. Four Questions
At Yachad this week students have been practicing reciting the Four Questions for the Passover Seder! One of the main parts of the seder is maggid, the telling of the story of the Exodus from Egypt. To kick it off the youngest person at the table often asks the Four Questions as an impetus for why this night is different from all other nights. If you would like to spend some extra time with your children practicing the questions, here is an audio link as well as a copy of the words. As a review for the answers to these questions, check out this brief overview.
