Kindergarten: Marking Time

This past Saturday we learned that Havdalah marks the end of the Shabbat and helps us keep this special time separate from the rest of the week. The children enjoyed creating

orange/clove spice boxes and Havdalah candles.

Hebrew through movement:

הבדלה / havdalah (separation), אש / aysh (fire)

Questions to ask your kids:
What is Havdalah?
Why is Havdalah important? (Raya’s Class)

(Elie’s Class)

We reviewed and expanded our Hebrew through Movement vocabulary, sang Yom Huledet Sameach/Happy Birthday to a tree outside our window for Tu B’Shevat, and thanked the tree for helping us breathe. We also drew animals and referred to them by their Hebrew terms, found objects around the room that corresponded to Hebrew colors, and read a story. A new term we learned was: Refuah Shlemah: we wished this to anyone in the class who was feeling under the weather. We also talked about things we can do to practice kavod or respect. Next week, our madricha will lead part of the class!
