Kindergarten Updates & Announcements
Raya’s Class:
This Saturday we got familiar with the first Torah story, Adam & Eve. We read and acted out the story of Adam and Eve and talked about God being like a parent to them and how all humans are partners with God.
In Hebrew through Movement we reviewed and learned the following verbs: לָקוּם (Stand), לָשֶׁבֶׁת (Sit), לָלֶׁכֶׁת (Walk), לעֲצוֹר (Stop), לָרוּץ (Run), לִקְפּוֹץ (Jump), and לְהִסְתּוֹבֵב (Turn around), לֽהוֹרִיד (pull up- lift) לֽהָרִים (pull down)
Questions to ask your Child:
Who are Adam and Eve?
What garden were they thrown out of?
Why were they thrown out?
Have Adam and Eve been forgiven?
What are some things you can do to help make a wonderful world?
Elie’s Class:
The kindergarten class had a fun day filled with learning and games! In Hebrew they learned colors in Hebrew with a substitute teacher: Kachol- blue, Adom- red and Yarok – green by walking, running or jumping toward items in the room that were that color. We also began to introduce the importance of the Torah’s stories by talking about ancestors and new beginnings. In class, they made up their own stories as a class and played a matching game where students matched a story’s beginning to its end.
Questions to ask your child:
What story did you make up in your class?
Did you visit the Torah? If so what did you notice was special about the sanctuary?
Family Program
This week families focused on kavod for our stories and learning. Our personal stories, our family stories and our Jewish stories. Parents examined ancient and modern texts while children heard a story, used drama and song to explore the same theme. If you couldn’t make it, here is a text you can explore with your children: Once upon a time Rabbi Tarfon and some wise people were laying down in their friend’s house. Someone asked: Is study more important or is doing more important? Rabbi Tarfon answered, saying: “Doing is more important.” Rabbi Akiva was there too, he said “Learning is more important because it leads to doing.” All of his friends and wise people agreed and said: “Study is the best when it leads to doing.”
