Learning the story of Jacob and Esau

Last Saturday we read the story of the battling brothers, Jacob and Esau, twin sons of Rebecca and Isaac.

We learned that Jacob means “Heel-Grabber” and Esau means “Hairy”. The kids enjoyed drawing pictures of Jacob being blessed by Isaac and talking about the question of whether Jacob tricked Isaac or Isaac tricked Jacob.
This coming Saturday, we’ll get familiar with the story of Purim.

Hebrew Through Movement

Ofir was away this week, so Inbal subbed for our Saturday classes. Our lower school students loved learning Hebrew with her!
This week we started learning about Purim!! We introduced the main characters of the Megila, wore masks and made noise with our gragers as we learned the following vocabulary:
Grager (Purim noisemaker) – Ra’ashan – רַעֲשָׁן
To make noise – Le’haraish – לְהַרְעִישׁ
Mask – Masecha – מַסֵּכָה
Scroll – Megila – מְגִלָּה
King – Melech – מֶלֶךְ
Queen – Malkah – מַלְכָּה
Crown – Keter – כֶּתֶר
