Naamah & Noah: Protecting the Earth

This week we had a fun review of all the holidays that we’ve celebrated so far this year, and talked about why we celebrate Simchat Torah!

During Hebrew Through Movement, we learned lehistovev, which means to spin, and reviewed the Hebrew alphabet. We also read Naamah and the Ark at Night, which is the story of Naamah, Noah’s wife.

Questions to Ask Your Child:

  • What stories did your friends share that they like to hear again and again?
  • What did you remember together about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot?
  • What were some ideas you shared or heard for a party when you finish a BIG good book?
  • Where any of your class’s party idea part of Simchat Torah celebrations?
  • Why did you hear the story of of Naamah and Noah again? What was different? (hint: do you remember some foods that can grow again without help and some that have to be replanted?)
  • What Hebrew words do you remember from today?

Family Program

During this week’s family program parents and students explored the connections between environmentalism and Sukkot. Students heard a story and did a drawing craft to express the hopes and promises they have for our earth. Parents explored biblical and Talmudic texts about humans’ relationship toward the earth and brainstormed ways they already model their environmentalist values in their homes and shared tips as a group!
