Social Justice Trees!

Last week the 7th Grade students celebrated Purim. They participated in some stations where they made Hamentash out of Rice Krispy treats and created some beautiful masks. For the last station, they chose to either participate in a discussion about the #MeToo in the Megillah where they talked about feminism in the Purim story or in a discussion about violence and the war in the Megillah.

This week we will once again look at the social justice tree which we used earlier this year to learn about community service and its impact on the world. This time, we are asking students to use the tree to evaluate their own mitzvah projects. They will use the leaves, trunk, and roots to understand how their Mitzvah project is helping to repair the world and how they can continue to do good once their B’nai Mitzvah is done. We are encouraging our students to continue to think about how can they continue their work once the B’nai Mitzvah is over.

Next week we will have a speaker from CAMBA come and visit the 7th Grade students in advance of CBE’s annual shelter.
