Jewish studies
This week, we wrapped up our Shabbat unit! Students have been learning Shabbat rituals and prayers. Many of them brought home kits this week, full of Shabbat items. They made candlesticks, challah covers, and besamim boxes for havdallah. They’re also bringing home a list of prayers that they learned over candles, grape juice, and challah. We also did a couple more prayers so that they could experience how it feels to do the blessing over washing hands and the receive the blessing over children. If you don’t regularly do Shabbat at home, this Thanksgiving weekend might be a great time to try it out, with their new kits, so they can integrate what they’ve learned into their home lives. If you do regularly do Shabbat at home, perhaps see if you third grader would like to lead a prayer that they don’t normally lead.
Hebrew
3rd grade worked on the verb to switch. They were introduced to colors (blue, green, yellow, red, white, black). They also learned Shabbat vocabulary- Candle/s, Candlestick/s, kiddish cup, challah and challah cover.
