Tikkun Olam and our responsibility to the world

Last Saturday, our K-1 Dual Language students began learning about Tikkun Olam.

Hi K/1 Families!

On Saturday we started learning about the idea of Tikkun Olam! We read a great story about how our actions can make the world a better place, and dedicated an activity and the art project to the subject: We drew a puzzle of the world on one side, and a self-portrait on the other side. The kids found it hard to put the drawing of the world together, so we suggested that they try and put the person depicted on the other side together first. It worked! they made their own version of the puzzle to take home 🙂
For Hebrew, we drew a big chart with Gadol and Gdola (big) on the top and Lo Gadol/ Lo Gdola (not big) on the bottom. We used cards with drawings of different animals we’ve learned at the beginning of the year ( like dolphin, chatul, chatula, dinosaur and so on) and the kids took turns to pick up a card and compile a sentence (zot chatula lo gdola, ze dinosaur gadol etc – This is a small female cat, this is a big dinosaur) when they placed the drawing in the chart.
For the choice time we played peirot ve yerakot (fruits and vegetables) matching games, a computer matching game, read cool spring/Passover boos in the reading corner and made our own version of the ester scroll in crafts. We also played a round of 1,2,3 Dag Maluach!

looking forward to seeing you all this coming Saturday- enjoy the beautiful weather this week!
