Unit Project: Mitzvah Villages

We’ve spent the first month of 5th grade Yachad learning about Mitzvot(commandments). We’ve talked about what they are, which ones are important to each of us, and how they relate to the High Holidays. Now, it’s time to see where they show up in our world.
Students are starting a multi-week project this week in small groups in which they are designing a new society that is founded in ten mitzvot of their choosing. The groups will then plan what buildings/elements/infrastructure does their society need in order for those mitzvot to be accomplished. Finally they will get to construct their mitzvah villages out of cardboard and recycled materials. If you have recycled materials (paper towel roles, empty tissue boxes, plastic food cartons, etc.) that you’d like to donate, feel free to send them to Yachad with your child or drop them off in room Bet in the rotunda next week. It would be greatly appreciated! Lastly, don’t forget to register for the Yachad Retreat by October 15th! Registration link below.
