Cycle of Community Organizing

9th Graders are busy learning about community organizing! We discussed the entire “Selma” movie for those students who might not have of been there. We also talked about the Cycle of Community Organizing.

The Cycle is made up of five parts:

1. Act and Evaluation

2. Uncover Problems, experiences, passions, concerns, and new leaders

3. Problem to issue and research

4. Power Analysis

5. Develop Campaign and new leaders

The students looked at the movie “Selma” through the lense of this cycle. Lastly, we looked into the Torah and read the Passover story. The Passover story is a great Jewish story that illustrates community organizing. Ask your teens about it!
