10 Days of Planning

Students explored why we have 10 days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur to say we are sorry and explored the importance of making plans.

Students then looked at pictures of different ways people observe Yom Kippur or get ready and shared how what traditions their family does and what they would like to do as a family.

Questions to Ask Your Child:

What did you share about plan-making in our family (ex: birthdays, lunches, Sundays)
Why do you think there are 10 days to plan from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur? (can ask about fixing)
We learned some Hebrew words, can you remember? (Repeat and see if they can move/respond as expected in HTM)
What picture do you remember from the Yom Kippur collection of pictures?
What do some families do for Yom Kippur?
What do you want to do for Yom Kippur?

Family Program

During the family program students and families focused on forgiveness. Students used drama, song and stories to define forgiveness and to practice the process using forgiving words that the hurt person needs to hear. In chevruta (partnered learning) parents examined biblical texts about forgiveness between people and forgiveness between God and people as well as Talmudic and modern psychology texts about the process of granting and receiving forgiveness. Families took home their worksheets to continue focusing on forgiveness as well as the other themes we have been exploring as families in this hour.
