6th Grade: Wrapping Up Our 1st Unit and Announcements
This week, students started wrapping up our 1st Unit: Eastern Europe Jewry and the Great Migration.
The essential questions for this unit are:
- How did the pogroms of 1881 and 1882 change the lives of Russian Jews?
- What were the three major responses of the Jewish community?
- How did those responses help shape the Jewish world of today?
- What challenges did the Russian Jewish immigrants find in America?
- How did they express their Jewish identities?
After becoming familiar with this information, watching part of a documentary, playing a trivia game, and class discussion, students were able to choose their own activities to explore the topic further. Activities included: writing a song parody/creating a music video, creating an immigrant guide book, reading story books on the topic, and more. Students will be presenting what they created to the class next week.
