Program Information

We offer enrichment classes in a wide variety of activities: the arts, dance, sports, gymnastics, instructional swim, computers, science, theater, sewing, circus arts, cooking, and so much more. The majority of our classes consist of ten to twelve children. Our classes include STEAM: science, technology, engineering, art, and math, as well as Maker’s education, meaning we host a wide variety of hands-on activities to support learning and encourage creativity, experimentation, growth, collaboration and community. Classes such as DIY Playground, Castles and Forts, Buildings and Structures, and Harry Potter’s Potions are just a few of the enrichment classes that spark interdisciplinary learning.

Hours & Daily Schedule

After school at PS 295 is available on school days, Monday-Friday, from 2:40-6:00PM.
Children will enroll and participate in one enrichment class per day. See below for the daily course listing.

If you are choosing our single class option, students can only stay for the one hour class.

At dismissal time, teachers will escort students participating in the after school program to the PS 295 cafeteria. The daily schedule for the program is as follows:

  • 2:40-3:45 PM: supervised outdoor play/choice time with a snack provided by the program in the cafeteria or selected enrichment activity
  • 3:45-4:45 PM: selected enrichment activity or organized games/activities and homework help
  • 4:45-5:45 PM: selected enrichment activity or organized games/activities and homework help
  • 5:45-6:00 PM: dismissal/pick up from the cafeteria
Late Pick Up

If you are running late, please call the security desk, (718) 965-0390 x1000. They will forward the message to the site supervisor. You will be charged $1 for every minute past 6:00 PM. After 3 late pick ups, the school reserves the right to suspend the child from the program.

Registration & Payment

To register, please complete the online registration form with your payment. The application is also available on the PS 39 website. There is a 5% discount for siblings.

Please indicate a first and second choice for each enrichment activity; enrollment is based on a first come first serve basis. Please note, CBE reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. If your child is going to be absent or if you need to make a change in your child’s schedule (permitted within the first two weeks of the trimester) please contact, Jesse Shiffman Ackerman, the site supervisor at PS 295. Some classes such as swim are held at CBE, 274 Garfield Place. Please check to see if pickup is at CBE for these classes.

Full payment for each trimester is due at the time of registration. If a payment plan is required please contact Lisa Wolf. There is a one time yearly registration fee of $75 per child. This is required for all participants, regardless of the number of days or semesters attending.

Animals, Monsters and Creatures

Mondays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
This class will include mixed media as well as a variety of materials. During the semester children will create a 3D model of their animal, creature and/or monster, as well as a group mural.

Advanced Video Workshop: Greek Gods & Myths

Mondays, 3rd-5th Grade, 4:45-5:45PM
What would happen if the characters from these myths were alive today? What stories would they tell? Filmmakers will make their own original video based on these classic stories. Students will learn to use equipment, as well as directing, acting, writing, and editing.

Circus Arts

Mondays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
Run away, join the circus and still be home for dinner! Learn tumbling, juggling, clowning, partner acrobatics, rope and plate spinning, clown makeup, human pyramids, and much more! This fun filled class allows youngsters to become circus stars!

Flag Football

Mondays, 2nd-5th Grade, 4:00-5:00PM
Learn the skills and coordination used in flag football and being part of a team sport. Children will enjoy the fun and team spirit of this game.


Mondays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Make things appear, disappear and all sorts of magical things! We will learn amazing tricks with everyday objects, and build secret devices. Basics of magical trickiness, including sleight of hand, misdirection, and optical illusion will be covered. Get ready to make your friends marvel, gasp, and laugh!

Open Studio: Mixed Media Art

Mondays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
An exciting experimental art class in a studio atmosphere. The students will be using various materials and media related to themselves, their world and interests. We will emphasize creativity and personal interpretation.

Video Workshop: Monster Mash

Mondays, 1st-2nd Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Students learn video basics to tell stories in this program. Children will be encouraged to make a short video based on their favorite ghouls, monsters and creatures. Children will use live action, animation and interviews. Use of equipment and basic editing will be included.



Tuesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
This class is designed to help children become well-rounded gymnasts. A focus on graceful tumbling, strength, flexibility and more! Safety precautions are taken in all areas.


Tuesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 4:00-5:00PM
Learn how to play kickball and see why the game is so popular across many age groups. It is easy to learn the rules of the game; the class stresses building strength, coordination and team cooperation.

Ninja Challenge

Tuesdays, K-1st, 2:45-3:45PM
Learn strength, agility, and endurance while mastering fun obstacle courses! Each class consists of conditioning and action-packed obstacle courses: jumping, climbing, vaulting, tumbling, and parkour style moves. The Ninja Challenge class inspires teamwork as well as athleticism.

Puppetry: Mythical Creatures

Enter the world of shadow, stick, hand, and paper mache puppets. Explore techniques of creation and the rich tradition of making puppets from all over the world. Using everyday materials to create your own unique characters.


Tuesdays, K-1st Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Learn basic sewing techniques while creating a doll of your own design or a pillow or beanbag creature.


Tuesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 4:45-5:45PM
Learn how to sew by hand piecing together a small quit. Basic patchwork technique using fun and colorful prints on squares of fabric. Design a quilt and sew it.

Thingamajigs, Gizmos, and Gadgets

Tuesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Students will enter into the world of kinetic building. They will learn to make moving structures, simple DIY machines, and even fidget spinners! From winding clocks in a time machine to toy vending machines, students will work with materials like metal, wood, wire, rubber bands, and more, while learning the basics of architecture and engineering in a fun and creative environment.


Fun with Physics: Roller Coasters and Racing Cars

Wednesdays, K-2nd Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Explore the ideas of gravity, force and motion. Create a crazy roller coaster with foam and marbles. Students will explore inclined planes, wheels, and axles. They’ll make toy cars and a mini-race track with different surfaces to learn about the effects of friction on moving objects. Read-aloud with books such as Sheep in a Jeep will reinforce concepts and create excitement about science learning.

Imagination Theater

Wednesdays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
In this class, students are able to explore different characters through movement and music. We may take a magic elevator to another universe and walk on the moon, become aliens, cowboys, or robots. Each class will focus on a different theme.


Wednesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Students will learn the basics of improvisation. They will explore how to create a scene from nothing and act out many different characters. This class will teach students how to think creatively on their feet and how to structure and improvised play.

Instructional Swim

Wednesdays, K-1st Grade, 4:45-5:45PM; Wednesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Students are taught fundamental swimming skills including: breath control, kicking, and floating. Swim focuses on stroke and rhythmic breathing. Must sign up for a full day. Students are picked up from PS 295 and brought to CBE (8th and Garfield Pl). Limit five students per class.

Kids Cook!

Wednesdays, K-1st, 2:45-3:45PM; Wednesdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Baking techniques and basic nutritional concepts will be emphasized. Learn to cook old favorites, as well as new dishes. Max of ten students.


Wednesdays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM; Wednesdays, 2-5th Grade, 4:45-5:45PM
Learn basic skills and rules of the game, as well as coordination skills and teamwork.

What’s the Story with Slime? (And other gooey stuff!)

Wednesdays, 3-5th Grade, 4:45-5:45PM
Find out the science behind slime. What makes it so flexible, gooey and fun? What kind of substance it anyway? (Think “polymers”) In this class you’ll make multiple types of slime; edible, fluffy and glowing slime, to name a few. You’ll test and compare the attributes of different slime types by cutting, stretching and pounding them.  Then you’ll use this scientific process to create and test other substances like glue and chalk. This class introduces concepts in the areas of materials science and engineering.


Basketball Drills and Skills

Thursdays, 3rd-5th Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
Layups and dribbles- featuring drills, stretches, and exercises that contribute to developing better hand-eye coordination. Every week there will be a new dribble introduced. Students will learn how and when to properly execute.

BitBots and Bytes

Thursdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
This is a series of classes run with the use of found electronics, littleBits, LEDs, motors, power sources (such as the sun), Arduino (an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software) and batteries. Utilizing the electronics alongside recycled materials, kids create contraptions, kinetic sculptures, and creative objects that can move, make sound, and light up! (Extra $25 fee for this class.)

BitBots Basics

Thursdays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
Your child will choose recyclables such as plastic bottles, cardboard, and paper to create sculptures that when combined with littleBits come to life and light up, twist, turn, buzz, blink, and shake! Through the process of designing and building, your child will experience the practical and cultural possibilities of new inventions! littleBits are simple electronic modules, each with specific functions, which can be snapped together magnetically to create large and elaborate circuits for prototyping and play.(Extra $25 fee for this class.)


Thursdays, K-2nd Grade, 2:45-3:45PM; Thursdays, 2nd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
This self-defense class promotes self-confidence and builds self-esteem. You will learn ABADA-Capoeira techniques, Brazilian Portuguese language, music and songs, acrobatic movements, and how to have fun while being healthy. Each student will improve his/her concentration, reaction time, and problem solving ability. (The first five students to enroll receive a free uniform!)

DIY Castles and Fairy Houses

Thursdays, K-2nd Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Students will create their own inventive princess castles and fairy houses using boxes, cardboard, fabric, feathers, and other materials. They will construct both the interiors and exteriors of each house, designing and creating the wallpaper, rugs, furniture, lighting, window decorations, and accessories. They will also create their own tiny fairies, who will call these new places home.

Kids Publish!

Thursdays, 3rd-5th Grade, 4:45-5:45PM
Students will use the writing process to conceptualize, write, illustrate, and produce their own books. We will use games and activities to hone students’ writing and storyboarding skills. Each student will learn how to create a visual short story as a precursor to illustrating and designing their own book. At the end of the semester, we will print each student’s book.


Build It!

Fridays, K-1st Grade, 2:45-3:45PM
Using Legos and other manipulatives, children will enjoy the hands on experience of creating patterns and shapes, while improving their number sense. Imagination and creativity are needed for this class.

Group Piano

Fridays, 1st-2nd Grade, 2:45-3:45PM; Fridays. 3rd-5th Grade, 3:45-4:45PM
Class is limited to five students. Children will learn the basics of piano playing through exploration of a vast repertoire. We will go through the first steps of ensemble playing, musical aural training, and the foundations of different styles, such as Classical, Jazz, Rock and Pop. Children will acquire knowledge about rhythm, harmony and musical structure, as well as correct hand position and finger dexterity. There is an extra $50 fee for this class.

Sports Sampler

A little bit of everything – soccer, basketball, and kickball. Each sport for one month. Focus is on skill building, rules of the game, coordination, and teamwork.

Mini Camps & Half Day Programs

Families will have the option to register for additional child care at our CBE location on days the school is closed due to clerical days, half-days, and school vacations, for an additional fee. Pick up on these days will be at CBE.
