Students

Daily student life varies by age, classroom, and hours of attendance. (See schedule options.) But a sample day might look like this:

  • Early Birds arrive for free play
  • Settle in to Choice Time; activities might include building, pretend play, sand or water play, and art
  • Meet for Morning Circle, which might include songs, read-alouds, and going over the schedule for the day
  • Snack time
  • Head to the gym or to a specialist program such as art, music, yoga, library; or go for a walk in the neighborhood or playtime in the park
  • Engage in a long-term project, building on children’s natural curiosity to explore their world through hands on, inquiry-led learning experiences that allow them to actively construct knowledge
  • Conquer the slides, run free, or explore a quiet corner with a friend in our gigantic ballroom playspace (Park Slope) or outdoor playground (Prospect Heights)
  • Lunch
  • Settle into naps/quiet time
  • Return to Choice Time
  • Go for a swim (Park Slope) or stretch our legs in the gym
  • Reunite with caregivers or stay on for our extended hours program*

*Extended hours are available, 8-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. (5 on Fridays). Children may begin using the Extended Day program once September phase-in is complete.

Family

We believe clear, open communication with families is an essential component of a successful preschool experience. This includes:

Daily Class Emails:

Teachers email parents about goings-on in the classroom several times a week. Their missives include photos along with details about the children’s activities that day, and may include updates about art and music or Shabbat, for example. We encourage you to read these with your child each evening to foster and maintain your home-school connection.

Parent-Teacher Conferences:

These are scheduled twice a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, and provide an opportunity to sit down with your child’s teachers to discuss progress, interests, friendships, and goals for your child.
